BOOK BENCHES DESIGN SELECTION
Through an open call, Kentucky artists will be invited to submit a bench illustration based on a book written by a Kentucky author. A list of suggested books and writers is provided via the www.bookbencheslex.org website. Additional books for design interpretation will also be permitted – subject to approval by the project administration.
Sponsors will be able to choose their book design from the submissions with priority being given to first paid in full, first to select from the portfolio of choices. In the event several designs for the same book are submitted, once one has been selected those remaining will be withdrawn.
The Book Benches Project is a public art collaboration between Arts Connect, LexArts and the Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning who will retain ownership of benches until such time as they are sold outright, purchases at auction or through other sale mechanisms. No use of the Book Benches Project name or brand may be used without the express written permission of this collaboration.
All benches with the exception of the 5 purchased at the Epic Sponsorship Level with retention rights, will be auctioned at the Open Book Gala and Auction final event. Proceeds from this will go to further the missions of Arts Connect, LexArts and the Carnegie Center for Literacy and Learning. 50 percent of the proceeds from the sale of each Novella Level benches will be returned to the sponsoring Fayette Co. School with half going to the School Library Department and half to the Art Program.
